Oxford Skatepark Revitalization & Expansion
Help us build a space that inspires the next generation of skaters
More than a skatepark.
A space for growth, connection, and opportunity.
The Beginning
The story of skateboarding in Oxford began witha simple problem: there was nowhere to skate. For years, local skaters had to travel over 100 miles just to find a skatepark. Recognizing the need, a group of skaters took initiative. They rallied support from parents, community members, and local leaders, even gaining backing from the mayor and presenting their vision to the Board of Aldermen.
What followed was a true grassroots effort. Skaters led fundraising through events, outreach campaigns, and community engagement—raising thousands of dollars themselves and playing an active role in shaping the park’s design. In 2003, the project received a major boost through a $25,000 grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation, helping bring the vision to life. After years of persistence, the Oxford Skatepark officially opened in 2006 as a 10,000-square-foot concrete facility.
Since then, the park has served as a safe, creative space for generations of skaters and has become a cornerstone of the local community.
Today, the Oxford Skateboarding Association continues that legacy. What started as a small group of determined skaters has evolved into a community-driven organization working to carry that same energy forward, working to ensure the next generation has even greater opportunities than the last.
20 Years Later
Our park has served us well–but it’s time for more. Built over two decades ago, the current Oxford Skatepark no longer meets the needs of a growing and evolving community. Limited features, aging infrastructure, and a lack of progression space make it difficult to support skaters of all levels. This project is about meeting that need—and setting a new standard for what this space can be.
In collaboration with 5th Pocket Skateparks, this conceptual design reimagines the skatepark reimagines the park as a modern, dynamic space built for progression, creativity, and inclusivity. With input from experienced designers and the local community, this park will be built to last–and built to inspire.
